What are some indicators of human trafficking?
- Victims find themselves in vulnerable situations and taken advantage of by someone who promises them money or to take care of them;
- victims show signs of: fear, trauma, fatigue, injury or other evidence of poor care and hygiene, including signs of sexual abuse and psychological damage;
- victims are afraid to communicate;
- chronic runaway/homeless youth;
- excess amounts of cash in their possession;
- hotel keys and key cards;
- lie about age/false ID;
- presence or fear of another person (often an older male, boyfriend or friend who seems controlling);
- sexually explicit profiles on social networking sites;
- loyal and have positive feelings toward pimp/trafficker; and
- may try to protect pimp/trafficker.
